What to Make for Christmas/New Year's Dinner

     At my house we go the traditional English route for Christmas dinner with some Nordic elements thrown in.  This is also a great New Years Dinner as well.  Below is this year's menu.  The starred recipes are in my digital book, Comfort Food Cookbook: Highlighting American, German, Norwegian, and English Heritage Recipes which is now available on iBooks®!

Appetizer

*Fruit, Cheese, and Herring Appetizer Tray
(An array of dates, orange slices, goat cheese, and pickled herring in wine sauce)

Hushållsost
(Farmer's Cheese from Sweden)

Brunost
(Brown Cheese from Norway)

Maine Course

*Eric's Christmas Prime Rib Roast
(Traditional Prime Rib Roast with Rosemary seasoned drippings)

*Yorkshire Pudding
(A batter pudding made with the dripping from the Prime Rib Roast)

*Green Beans Accented with Garlic and Basil

*Butternut Squash
(Mashed with butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon)

Dessert

*Plum Pudding
(English Christmas Pudding)

*Hard Sauce
(Brandied topping for the Plum Pudding)

*Grama Tessem's Spice Cookies
(A thin, crispy, cookie with cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and allspice)
