Table Setting Tip to Reduce Stress on Party Day
This table setting tip is a great help in staying sane on the day of your party. It is perfect in its simplicity! Set the table one week ahead of time! This is obviously going to work only if you are using a separate dining table or another table different from the one you use on a daily basis.
Too many times I have left the setting of the table to the day of the party. It was a rush, and just created stress when I was trying to finish cooking.
1) Choose what dishes you are going to use.
2) Choose table cloths or place mats and napkins. Iron if needed.
3) Get out table pads or other table protection. A trimmed to size plastic drop cloth can actually help be a moisture barrier if you don't have pads.
4) Choose what decorations you would like to set out.
5) Get out the serving dishes and any special serving utensils. Decide if they will be on the table or somewhere else and make sure they will all fit where you want them to be.
6) Set the table with everything except the glasses and other tall items.
7) Cover the table with a bed sheet. Yes, a bed sheet. My grandmother, who was a phenomenal hostess taught me this trick. This will keep dust from accumulating on your pretty dishes. On the day before the party, take off the sheet and finish setting the table.
I enjoy the creative process of setting the table much more when I do it in an unhurried time, long before the big push of preparations begin. I hope this tip brings you comfort during your party preparations!
