Afternoon Tea at Bettys - Harrogate, Yorkshire, UK
During my recent visit to the North of England I was very lucky to be able to photograph and experience a Reservations-Only Lady Betty Afternoon Tea at the famous tea room, Bettys, located in the town of Harrogate in North Yorkshire, UK. I had read about Bettys in my tea magazines and could not wait to come and see this historic tea room for myself! Bettys began in Harrogate in 1919 when the founder, Frederick Belmont, a Swiss confectioner, baker, and chocolatier opened his first tea room in the popular spa town known for its healing waters, beautiful gardens, and hotels.
My tea was to begin at 1:00pm in the first floor Imperial Room. People began to arrive early and the door opened precisely 5 minutes to 1:00pm which allowed us to make our way upstairs to a beautiful room with large picture windows set for tea overlooking Montpellier Gardens. We listened to the piano as we were given our menus and greeted by the waiter/waitresses.
When my waiter asked about dietary restrictions I requested a nut free tea. They were happy to oblige and replaced the items containing nuts with alternatives.
Come along and see the adventure unfold.
I selected the Moutard Rosé Prestige Champagne.
The menu.
The appetizer was a pea, cucumber, and tomato cocktail.
My table next to the picture window. I chose a Lemongrass and Ginger Tisane. Delectable courses are served on a beautiful 3 tier silver stand.
Savory Selection: Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese, and Dill Roulade. Miniature Pork and Apple Pie.
Chicken & Tarragon Sandwich.
Scones: Rose Scone flavored with rose petals and Lemon Scone.
Lemongrass and Ginger Tisane served in a glass teapot.
Fresh Fruit Meringue with Chocolate Lattice, Fresh Fruit Tart with Custard Filling, and a Chocolate Guinea.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures of the Lady Betty Afternoon Tea as much as I did. Be sure and visit Bettys website, Bettys & Taylors of Harrogate, Ltd.
